INMAN, EUGENE L. SR. - Covington - Eugene L. Inman Sr., 78, of Covington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, after a long hard fought battle with esophagus cancer pneumonia and heart disease. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was born March 25, 1931, in Mount Clemens, Mich., to David and Hazel Inman. Eugene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary M. Inman; children, Gena Inman-Harrison (Randy) of Zanesville, Eugene Jr. (Wanda) of Indianapolis, Ind., David Inman (Patty) of Peoria, Ill., Kimberly Inman of Covington and Christine Inman of Kettering; Joshua Eugene Inman, beloved grandson of Orlando, Fla.; Jessica J. Inman, beloved granddaughter of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and several other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and five little friends, his dogs. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Grace Baptist Church, 1400 N. Market St., Troy, with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Grace Baptist. A burial ceremony will follow the Celebration of Life at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, State Route 48, Covington. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Eugene L. Inman Sr. served his country he loved in the Army. He served with the Army's 2nd Infantry Division. 9th Regiment, 1st Battalion, as a rifleman. He was in combat in the Korean War in various parts along the Naktong River Line, Kunuri-Sunchon and Kunuri area. He was captured by the Chinese at age 19 on Nov. 30, 1950, at a roadblock, where he became a POW for three years, repatriated at "Big Switch," on Aug. 30, 1953. He was part of a march across "Death Valley," with inclement weather, lack of food and shelter and rapid death. Eugene received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and UN Korean Service Medal with 10 Battle Stars. He was a member of the VFW, EX-POWs, DAV, Korean War Vets of America and Disabled Veterans of America. He graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Ill., continuing studies at University of Iowa, University of Michigan and University of Georgia in Science, Business and Administration. Eugene L. Inman, Sr. loved his country, his family and his heavenly Father. He is at peace now and we will greatly miss him but we must honor him through our Celebration of Life.
