- Troy - Vera Kuhnle Stephens, 86, of Troy, passed away Sunday
morning, May 17, 2009, at SpringMeade Health Center, Tipp City. She was
born Dec. 3, 1922, in Troy, to the late Calvin and Sarah (Smitley) Kuhnle.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn and husband, Edward Hobart, of Troy
and Sandra and husband, Gary Spangler, of Tipp City; three grandsons, Matthew
and wife, Mandi Spangler, of Cincinnati, Brian Hobart of Los Angeles, Calif.,
and Phillip Spangler of Columbus; and one great grandson, Aiden Spangler.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband
of 49 years, Harold "Steve" Stephens, in April 1991 and her sister,
Dorothy, in 1989. Mrs. Stephens was a loving homemaker. She also was
a member of First Lutheran Church, Troy, where she actively served for many
years. She was a hospital volunteer for Stouder Memorial Hospital and
Upper Valley Medical Center, both of Troy, for 15 years with more than 3,000
hours of service. Private graveside services will be at Riverside Cemetery
with the Rev. Ric Barnes officiating. A memorial service will be held at
First Lutheran Church, Troy, at a later date. Friends may call from 4-7:30
p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box
502, Troy, OH 45373, for First Lutheran Church, 2899 W. Main St., Troy, OH
