SHORT, JOHN L. - age 71, of Tipp City, formerly of Mercer, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton.  John was born March 5, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a lifetime member of the Mercer Optimist Club, a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Mercer, where he served as an usher, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  He managed Mercer Lumber Co., worked for Firestone Tire Corporation and owned & operated his own Drivers Training School.  John attended St. Christopher Catholic Church, enjoyed traveling, model trains, and spending the winter months in Port Charlotte, FL.  Preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Short; his mother & step-father, Laura (Stang) and Frank Miller, John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susanne (Davis); 4 children, John & wife; Julie Short of Medway, Chris & wife, Linda Short of Harmony, PA, Gregory & wife, Kendra Short of Columbus, and Sue & husband, Jim Rosselit of Tipp City; 7 grandchildren, Sarah & Rachel Short, Robert & Stephen Short, Anna & Laura Rosselit & Kendretta Short; 3 sisters, Bernie Faulkner, Terry Bair & Gyla Miller, all of PA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 4, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Vandalia with Fr. Francis Keferl officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Tipp City.  The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Sunday from 2-5 pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Mercer Area Library, 143 North Pitt St., Mercer, PA 16137, or to the charity of your choice in John's memory.
