BARBER, JAMES B. - James B. Barber, 81, Xenia, died Tuesday evening, November 4, 2003, at Greene Oaks Health Center.  He was born September 24, 1922, in Cedarville the third son of Lawrence and Hazel McCoy Barber.  He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lang Barber, daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Frank Manola, Boston, and son David Barber of Dayton, brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Mae Barber, Mansfield; brother-in-law, Richard F. Lang and wife Judy; sister-in-law, Lucille Barber and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Banta) and brother, Kenneth.  He graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1940, and attended Ohio State University, where he was a member of Alpha Delta Sigma professional fraternity.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the Fifth Air Force in the Philippines, Okinawa, and occupied Japan.  He retired from Hobart Corporation in Troy, where he was Sales Promotion Manager for Kitchen Aid Appliances.  In his early professional days, he was active in Junior Achievement, Community Chest, and Red Cross, serving as a member of the Board for the Greater Dayton Area.  He enjoyed gardening, listening to music, watching the Cincinnati Reds and playing golf.  His family will remember him for his faith, his cheerfulness, and his outgoing personality.  Jim was a member of the Memorial United Presbyterian Church and former member of Vandalia United Methodist Church.  Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 8, at Memorial United Presbyterian Church, 343 W. Ankeney Mill Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Conley A. Zomermaand officiating.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial United Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.  Neeld Funeral Home is in charge of services.
