Former Trojan Leaves 195 Descendants
Daniel Sylvester Stager, 95, retired Miami and Darke County farmer, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. James Wooddell, Sidney. He left 195 direct descendants - 15 children, 112 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Stager's death was due to complications stemming from a seven month illness.
He was born May 28, 1866 in Darke County, the son of Johnathon and Barbara Strader Stager, and was married in 1896(Jay Co., IN) to Della Demoss, who died in 1937. He was a long-time resident of Troy before moving to Sidney in 1958. One daughter Mrs. Carolyn Coll (Caroline Cool), preceded him in death. Besides Mrs. Wooddell, his surviving children are nine sons and five daughters: Charles, Roscoe, Farron, Robert and Edgar Stager and Mrs. Roy Berry, Troy; William and Oliver Stager, Tipp City; Laban Stager and Mrs. Jean Willhelm, Hermosa Beach, Calif; Lewis Stager, Delano Beach, Fla; Mrs. Mary Watren, Piqua; Mrs. Ruby Nolan, Covington; and Mrs. Bertha Nolan, Middletown.
He is also survived by a half sister, Mrs. Clifford Blackmore, and a half-brother, Garfield North, both of West Milton.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Irvin-Deeter funeral home here. Burial wil be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cromer & Sons funeral home, Sidney. Thursday afternoon and evening, and at Irvin-Deeter Friday afternoon and evening until time of services.
