TRIMBLE, MAX - Killed by the Cars - A Troy Boy's Horrible Death
at Tippecanoe Last Thursday Night - A young man aged about
twenty years, named Max Trimble, met with a shocking death at Tippecanoe
last Thursday night. He resides in Troy with his mother and sister, of
whom he has been the chief support for years. On the night mentioned
young Trimble went to Tippecanoe City on a freight train. As the train
stopped some distance out of town, he walked up the cars to find a good
place to alight. The train was made up of ordinary box cars and flat
cars loaded with lumber. It is supposed Trimble jumped from the top of
a box car on a piece of lumber which projected over the end of a flat
car, and which broke and let him down on the track, several cars passing
over his body and mutilating it in a horrible manner. One leg and an
arm were cut off, a portion of his head torn away, besides other
wounds. His body was returned to his now saddened home, which he left a
few hours previous joyous and happy. Trimble was a carriage painter by
trade and was employed at the Troy Spring Wagon and Wheel Works. He was
a good workman, a genial companion, and was respected by his friends and
associates. The proprietors and employees of the Wheel Works yesterday
made up a purse of $50 and presented it to the mother of young Trimble.
