BATTAY, MRS. HANNAH - Mrs. Hannah Battay died in Owosso, Mich., April 21, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. G. W. Collier, of inflammation of the lungs, after an illness of nine days, aged 76 years, 2 months, and 2 days.  She was born in Preston, Conn., 1803; at the age of 21 yrs. was married to Wm. Battay.  She was the mother of seven children, two of whom died in infancy.  In 1844 the family removed to Cleveland, O., and in 1847 to Flint, Mich.  In 1861 her husband enlisted in the Third Michigan Cavalry, and in about a year died in the service.  Thus left alone, her daughters all being married.  Mrs. Battay sold her home in Flint and came to live with her daughter in Owosso, Mrs. G. W. Collier, and ever after made that her home, but yearly visiting her three other daughters, Mrs. C. C. Mansfield, of Troy, O.; Mrs. G. Carpenter of Fair Haven, Mich., and Mrs. H. G. Beach of Bay City, Mich.  All those daughters were present at the funeral, which took place April 23.  Services were held at the residence of Mr. Collier by Rev. L. O. Lee, pastor of the Congregational Church, with which church the deceased united in 1865.  Mrs. Battay was a consistent Christian; an invalid for seven years she lived retired, and did her own Bible reading and praying.            Com.
