SHOEMAKER, MR. GEORGE - Pleasant Hill, O., May 5, '78 - Mr. George Shoemaker, a highly respectable citizen of this place, died yesterday morning at 10 o'clock. Mr. Shoemaker was one of our oldest citizens, and so universally esteemed that his death has cast a gloom over the entire community. He has been a resident of this village for perhaps thirty years, almost all that time being spent in the dry goods trade; he was one of those good, kind hearted men, and always had a pleasant word for all who met him. He was not what is termed a wealthy man, and yet well-to-do in the world, and looked upon as the poor man's friend, and a man who never said no or turned you away with a frown when asked to contribute to the aid of any charitable purpose. He passed away at the age of 58 years, leaving a sorrowing wife, a sister and a brother, and a large circle of friends who have the sympathies of the entire community. The remains will be laid away in Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Sunday next by the Masonic Fraternity, of which he had been a member over 10 years, about 9 years of which he filled the office of Treasurer of this Lodge.
