SMITH, DAVID - A Pioneer Gone - Mr. David Smith, of Carlisle, who was well and favorably known in this section, died on Thursday of last week, and was buried last Monday. His funeral took place at the Christian Church, Carlisle, and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Wells. Mr. Smith having been one of the oldest Masons in Ohio, his funeral was under the direction of that body, Coleman Commandry Knights Templar having charge. Representations were also present from Reed Commandry, Dayton, and Apollo, of Springfield. Also the entire Blue Lodge, of New Carlisle. It was one of the largest and most imposing funerals held in this section. Mr. Smith was born in Scotland in 1795, and consequently was 83 years of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1812 and settled in Rochester, N. Y., but removed to Ohio and settled near New Carlisle 2 years after. He has been a Mason for 52 years.
