KNOOP, JACOB - Gone at last --the last one gone. Mr. Jacob
Knoop, the last of the ones highly esteemed and excellent firm known as the
Knoop Brothers, died at the family residence last Tuesday morning. He was
the first white male child born in Miami County, so far as known, and was
something over 80 years old. For several years past Mr. K. had been in a
bad condition--a softening of the brain or something of the kind having
rendered him unfit for either business or society. During this time,
although enjoying reasonably good health, he scarcely recognized any
relative or acquaintance. In this condition he remained with very little
apparent change till a little more than two weeks ago when he was taken
down, gradually sinking until death. He lived the life of a good man, and
while in his right mind, was one of the most useful of our citizens. Both
he and his estimable brother, John H.--who died some time ago, will be long
remembered in this community for their many good deeds.
