BAILEY, MARTIN - A sad case of drowning occurred at Lockington on
Sunday night. Martin Bailey, an estimable young man, while returning from
church, fell into one of the locks which was half full of water. His cries
for help were unheeded as they were supposed to arise from some disorderly
person, and he was left to perish. The marks on the side walls mutely told
the pitiful story of his desperate attempt to escape from the terrible death
pit, where finally despairing of rescue he had met his fate.
