Miami Union

November 25, 1876

WOODWARD, COL. J. R. - Col. J. R. Woodward, of Tippecanoe, died last Tuesday.  His disease, we believe, was dropsy of the heart, which was aggravated by a billious fever from which Col. W. had been suffering for some time previous to his death.  He was well known in Miami County and had a host of warm friends and the loss which is felt by his death was evidenced by the large procession which followed his remains to their last resting place.  The Tippecanoe Guards and a squad of the Pearson Guards in full uniform, escorted the remains to the grave.  Col. Woodward was about thirty-five years of age, and was a genial, kind hearted gentleman.  He was a man of winning social qualities and ever delighted to have his friends around him in the pleasantries of social intercourse.  The death of such a member of society always creates a void.

He is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, Ohio - Death date - November 20, 1876
