KEMPER, MILTON - Robbery and Murder - We learn from the Piqua Journal that on the night of the 2d inst. the safe of Philip Herzig of St. Marys, Ohio was blown open and $100 in bank bills and two gold watches were taken. Two men named Chuck Kenedy and Colonel Smith were suspected and followed to Newport, on the canal, by the Sheriff of Auglaize County, and Milton Kemper, a constable. The robbers fired several shots at their pursuers, slightly wounding the Sheriff and mortally wounding Kemper, who died the next day. The villians made their escape after being tracked to Patrick's Station. Auglaize County offers a reward of $500 for each of the robbers.
