Funeral services for Robert Hollis, Civil war veteran and retired printer, were
conducted Thursday morning at 10:30 o’clock in the Shilling & Son mortuary when
an assembly of relatives and friends were in attendance.
Re. I.L. Dungan, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiated at
the services, reading from Scripture, quoting the hymn “Abide With Me” and
paying and excellent tribute to Mr. Hollis as a soldier and as a man.
Mr. Hollis, who was 88 years of age, died Tuesday morning at the home of his
niece, Mrs. Russel Geiger, on Pearson court, after having suffered an illness of
only a week. Bronchial pneumonia
was assigned as the cause of his death.
Burial was made in Riverside cemetery with Carl Parker, Edward Hollis, Freeman
Beanblossom, and Walter Sweet, the latter of Piqua, acting as pallbearers.
Attendants at the service from other vicinities included Mr. and Mrs. C.S.
Hollis of Dayton, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hollis and five children, Edward, June,
Doyle, Gerald and Junior Shearer, all of Bradford, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sweet
and children, Bruce and Margaret Lee, of Piqua.
