Harker, John M.
Troy Times
Company F 71st
OVI
The remains of Mr. John M. Harker of the Commissary Department, 71st
Reg. O.V. arrived here last Thursday evening.
He was buried on Saturday with military honors – Rosson’s Riflemen
attending. His disease was pleurisy
and he died at Paducah.
We are gratified to learn that he received every attention during his sickness
and Capt. Kramer deserves special commendation in this respect.
Capt. K. also sent his remains home and telegraphed the sad tidings to
this place but the dispatch never reached here.
This last fact accounts for the seeming rudeness of allowing the corps to
announce, by its arrival, the sorrowful intelligence for the family hear of his
death but a short time previous to the arrival of his body.
