James Knox, a veteran of the Civil war, died at 1:30 o’clock Saturday morning at
the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers, Canal and Union streets, where he
made his home. He had been ill only
a week.
Mr. Knox was 73 years of age and was born in Indiana.
He served in the 71st OVI, and the 8th OVC during
the Civil war and was a member of Coleman Post, GAR of Troy. Part of the time he
stayed at the Dayton Soldiers Home.
He is survived by one son, William Knox, of Hartford City, Indiana.
Four grandchildren live in Troy, Misses Isabelle, Margaret, and Alice
Knox and Everett Knox.
Rev. D.S. Ferguson was in charge of the funeral services of James Knox which
were held at 2 o’clock Monday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers,
corner of Canal and Union Streets.
He was assisted by the members of Coleman Post, GAR, who used their ritualistic
services both at the house and the grave.
Interment was made in Riversides cemetery, the pall bearers being George
Niswonger, Tipp Kendell, Raper McKee, Wm. Coffinger, William Carver and LL
Speagh.
