Cyrus Pogue was born in Greene County, Ohio, Sept. 13, 1839 where he grew to manhood in the year of 1859 he moved to Brown township, Miami County, where he has resided since he was twenty years of age, except the three year that he spent in the war of 1861. Feeling the pressing need of defending his country’s flag and the common welfare of the nation, he enlisted as private soldier in Co. E, 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He spent three years and nine months in actual service. After his honorable discharge from service he again took up his residence on the farm northeast of Fletcher where he resided most of his active life until a few years ago he moved to Fletcher where he resided until the time of hi s death.
He was unified in marriage to Elizabeth Caroline Covault, January 2, 1868. To this union were born three children, John F., who resides in Fletcher, Isaac Wilbur, who is one of the leading teachers of Ohio and for several years has been the efficient superintendent of the Celina schools, and Harley Preston who is a successful farmer and resides a few miles south of Fletcher.
In early manhood he united with the Bellbrook Christian church and when he moved to Brown Township he united with the Springcreek Christian church. He and his faithful companion united with the church as the same time and for forty-nine years they have shared the joys of Christina fellowship together.
On December 27, 1917, he quietly gently, fell asleep, and his spirit winged its flight to that home from which no traveler ever returns. He leave to mourn his loss a faithful wife, three sons, three sisters, two brothers, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many friends and relatives.
His was a life of nobility with love and loyalty, sacrifice and service, purpose and achievement. He never wavered in the discharge of the duties of citizenship. He never failed in his obligations to home and loved ones. He never forgot the relation to the God of his father. He died as he lived, at peace with God and his follow men.
