Amos H. North, the oldest son and third child of eleven children of Wm. and Ester North was born in Newton township, Miami County, on December 5, 1833 and died January 17, 1917, aged 83 years, 1 month, and 12 days. While a young man he was converted and joined the Christian church as Shiloh.
He was married to Margaret F. Sloan, March 27, 1856. They afterwards became members of the Desciple church. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, he with his brother, Laton, enlisted in the 71st Co. B., O.V.I. in three years service, leaving his wife, father mother, brothers and sisters. He participated in the battle of Pittsburg Landing and in numerous other skirmishes and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Dan Williams Post at Pleasant Hill.
Amos grew to manhood in this father’s home, attending the local schools and then spent three terms in Antioch College at Yellow Springs. He also taught one term of school.
The deceased leaves to mourn their loss a wife, one brother, Layton North of Buffalo, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Martha J. Fetters of Laura, one sister-in –law, Mrs. Milton North of Laura, Milton dying about one month ago.
The funeral was held from the Pleasant Hill Christian church on Friday, conducted by Rev. O. P. Furnas. Interment in Pleasant Hill cemetery
