Joseph Conner Joseph Conner Joe's date of death and place of birth is not known, however it is known that he was living in Newberry Township of Miami County Ohio when he applied for his pension on 21 March 1821. Further, he his wife were recorded on the 1820 Federal Census of Newberry Township. On that census Joseph and wife were both over 45 years old. According to their neighbors, as shown on the 1820 census, they were most likely located just north of what is presant day Covington. He served as a private in The Army of the Revolution for five years and eight months. He enlisted in Berkely County Virginia around May 1777 in a company commanded by Captian Johns and then shortly after he joined a regiment commanded by Colonel Hunt at Winchester. In November 1778 he enlisted again in a company of Cavalry commanded by Colonal White. After a year he was transferred to Colonal William A. Washington's Regiment of Horse, and served until the close of the war in companies commanded by Captins Grimes and Hughs. He was at the Battle of Guilford Court House, N.C., Monk's Corner, Cowpens and Eutaw Springs. At a skrimish with the Indians near Savannah Georga he was shot through the leg. He was present at Yorktown at Cornwall's surrender and was discharged at Winchester Virginia. Return to the |
