HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE

In order to unsubscribe send a message to: OHMIAMI-L-request@rootsweb.com
with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message, or if you are subscribed digest mode send the message to:  OHMIAMI-D-request@rootsweb.com with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message

When you do unsubscribe, keep in mind that a few messages may still be sent to you. It is kind of like turning off the garden hose and a little water may still drain out.

HOW TO POST A MESSAGE

All Miami County Genealogy related messages should be sent to the e-mail address shown above. Take care to update the subject line in the header of your message so that it reflects what your message is about. Many users do not read the contents of all of the messages but just those that stir their interest. You could miss some really good connections because of misleading subject headers.

NOTE: It is possible to subscribe to both mail methods at the same time. To suspend mail delivery during vacation times, unsubscribe from the list or change to the "Digest" mode .


WHAT IS A "LIST-SERVER" & WHAT DOES IT DO?

Joining a list server is kind of like subscribing to the query section of a County Genealogy Newsletter, except here you don't have to wait for the mailman to bring it to your door every month or so. It is there for you every time you download your e-mail.  As soon as someone sends a query to the mail-server it is automatically resent to all of the people subscribed to that list-server's address, including you!  So, it is best to keep in mind that if you don't want everyone on the list to see your mail you had best sent it private! However, we recommend that if your message pertains to Miami County Ohio  genealogy, please do send it through the list-server!

The way it works is something like this:
Every time you send an e-mail to the address OHMiami-L@RootsWeb.com  that message goes to an unmanned computer that does nothing more than turn right around and resend that same message to everyone on the list of Miami Co subscribers.

A thing for you to take note of  is that the e-mail address that you send your genealogy queries to is not exactly the same address as the one you use to subscribe and unsubscribe. That is it does not have the word request in it, i.e. OHMiami-L-request@RootsWeb.com
When you put the word request in the address it does not go out to everyone, but tells the automatic computer that you either want to join or quit the mailing-list.
