CRAWFORD CEMETERY
Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio


The Miami County Survey Book #2, page 183, describes a Mill race as well as a cemetery which is marked "Crawford Cemetery" on the steel arch over it's gate at the side of Rt. 571, just west of New Carlisle. A check of the markers list the following members having been buried here:

The Crawford family plot is fenced in the center portion of a larger fenced-in cemetery with Crawford Cemetery in metal letters on both gates. The family plot is 20 feet by 22 feet, containing a larger stone engraved C R A W F 0 R D and six very modern ground level marble markers nicely lined up and from from front to back in this order from the front:

Only a few markers remain standing in the outer courtyard, most are stacked against a large oak tree in front of the family plot described above. 

One is broken with only the death date Decd. 26, 1836 Aged 37 yrs. 

Another with a Masonic sculptured emblem reads John N. Courter departed Dec. 28, 1851, Aged 41 yrs.

 Another is for Elizabeth, dau of J. & 0. Lucas, died May 16, 1817 Aged 16 yrs 1 mo 1 da

A group of stones read Elihu Hopkins, died Aug. 4, 1851 Aged 82 yrs

Sarah, wife of E. .H. Hopkins, Esq died Jan. 25, 1816 Aged 35 yrs 9 mos & 3 da; 

In memory of Andrew Kemper, son of E. H. & Sarah Hopkins who died March 24, 1846 Aged 2 mos 6 da

Elizabeth, dau of R. G. Hopkins died May 19,1845 Aged 12 yrs 2 mos. 

The only other markers readable were Cristian Reprogle died Apr. 25, 1874 Aged 5 yrs 4 mos 18 da

John J., son of James (SussAyeabed?) died Aug. 16, 1850 Aged 12 yrs 1 mo 24 da

Jacob Kable, died May 5, 1859 Aged 23 yrs 9 mos

In Memory of Abigail D. Smalley died July 5th, 1838 Aged 10 Yrs (?) mos 2 da
