UNION CEMETERY

Union Cemetery, in Newton Township, is also known as Old Union, Union Joint, or Old Ludlow Cemetery (Not to be confused with The Old Ludlow Cemetery in Laura). It is east of State Route 48 on Horseshoe Bend Road, then back a long lane running north, in a field. It is in the southeast quarter of Section 32. Many of the early burials were Quakers. The early meeting houses and adjoining cemetery were built on five acres of the farm of Marmaduke Coate and his wife Mary Jane Coppock. The land was deeded to the Union Meeting Trustees in 1813.
