BESECKER, MILDRED H. - Mildred "Millie" Hazel Besecker (nee
Shawver), 87,
of Troy, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Upper Valley Medical Center, She
was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Troy, to Edward and Edna Ruth (Counts) Shawver.
Millie was a member of First United Church of Troy since age 12, then was an
active member with her husband Carl for 26 years at the Potsdam Church of
the Brethren and was a member of Troy Senior Citizens. Millie also did
volunteer work at Koester Pavilion and retired from Hobart Brothers after
many years of service. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law,
Marilyn Brown of Troy, Cyndi Tooley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Linda and Berton
Hunt of West Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, Bruce Brown, Brian and Robin
Brown, Brenda Brown, Martin and Vera Hunt, and Karen and Loren Randall; four
great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; step children, Robert
Besecker of Greenville, Shirley and Ronald Baker of Arcanum, Karen Besecker
of Versailles and Kentand Cynthia Besecker of Texas; eight step
grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husbands, Robert W. Tooley and Carl Besecker; son-in-law, Lloyd
Brown; and sisters, Dorothy Bernhart and Irene Hathaway. Funeral services
were held Jan. 26 at Potsdam Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Robert
Kurtz officiating. Burial was in Gettysburg Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Koester Activity Fund or Potsdam Church of the Brethren.
