DOWNEY, HELEN I. - Helen I. Downey, 89, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Tipp City, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Royal Palm Retirement Community in Port Charlotte.  She was born on May 6, 1920 in Pleasant Hill to the late Milton and Edna (Neisley) Buckingham.  She was a former member of the Eastern Stars and the Good Sam RV Club.  Helen married Raymond Downey on July 9, 1939, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2001.  She is survived by her daughters, Linda L. Conley of Port Charlotte, Fla., Sandra M. Rosen of Troy, Cheryll A. Hohne of Troy; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother Bobby Buckingham and sister, Shirley Pittsenbarger.  In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles "Edd" Larck,; two brothers, Donald and Billy Buckingham; four sisters, Maxine Slade, Doris Jean Wenrick, Dorthea Shappie and Ruth Weldy.  A memorial service was held April 24 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home with Pastor Dick Martens officiating.  Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City.  Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, CL 33952.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.fisher-cheney-funeralhome.com.
