KARR, KEVIN D.
- Kevin D. Karr, age 64, of Tipp City,
Ohio, passed away of an extended illness on Friday, March 6, 2009, at
his sister's home. He was born May 27, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa, to
David and Zarita (Best) Karr. He was preceded in death by both his
parents; his grandparents, Lester and Merle Best, Davenport, Iowa;
Leslie and Hazel Karr, Chattanooga, Tennessee; his uncle Lester Best,
Davenport, Iowa; his uncle and aunt Bruce and Mary Karr, Long Beach,
California; his uncle Paul Karr, Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his aunt
Gerrie (Karr) Baxter, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Kevin is survived by his
sister Daren and brother-in-law Jerry Rathmann, Tipp City, Ohio; his
nephew Lt. Col. Kolin Rathmann, and wife Dunja, Lovettsville, Virginia;
his great-nephews Kaleb Rathmann, West Milton, Ohio, and Konnor Rathmann,
Lovettsville, Virginia; his great nieces Logan Rathmann, West Milton,
Ohio, and Grace Rathmann, Lovettsville, Virginia; his cousins Judi Best,
Clinton, Iowa; Melanie (Karr) Munro and Richard Karr, Cedar Rapids,
Iowa; and Jon Karr of Maine. He will also be missed by his many
friends, especially Frank Kuhlmann, Larry and Cheryl Kuhlmann and their
sons, McKinley and Landon, Davenport, Iowa; Curt and Sally Kiser,
Lamont, Florida; Tom and Pat Wagner, Land-O-Lakes, Florida; Allen and
Anne McKie, Shorewood, Wisconsin; Mary Barley of Islamorade, Florida;
Ken and Linda Roberts, Spring Hill, Florida; Tito and Colleen Martinez,
Apple Valley, California; and Bob and Dee Smith, Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
Kevin graduated in 1962 from Central High School, Davenport, Iowa, and
the University of Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Business
Administration. He worked for several years in the textile industry in
California before opening his restaurant in 1974, Jose Taco, in Madison
Wisconsin, late renamed Zaritas. He was in business for eighteen
years. He also worked for ten years all over the United States in the
wireless telecommunications industry. Kevin served in the United States
Army for three years with a year in Vietnam from June 1967 to June
1968. He loved to travel and go salmon and halibut fishing in Alaska
and lobstering in the Florida Keys with his friends. He was a avid
antique cigar label and trade card collector. Visitation was held
Sunday, March 15, 2009, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Runge Mortuary, 838
E. Kimberly Road, Davenport, Iowa 52807. Funeral service was at 9:00
a.m. at Runge Mortuary with burial to follow at Rock Island National
Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to
