TIPP CITY - THOMAS C. STANLEY, 99, formally of Tipp City, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008, at Tri-County Extended Care Center.

He was born Dec. 27, 1908, to the late Richard Greene and Virginia (Wilson) Stanley in Adamsville, Tenn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jane (Baldwin) Stanley; daughters, Mary (George) Blauser of Troy and Sylvia (John) Staup of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Chris (Diane) Blauser and Jeff (Becky) Blauser all of Tipp City, Cathy (Floyd) Stahl of Powell, Emily (Brian) Meyer of Alpine, Wyo., Elizabeth (Dylan) Eiler of Lafayette, Colo.; 9 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.  He was the last living member of 17 children. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Smith) Stanley; daughter, Virginia Doyne; his parents, Richard Greene and Virginia (Wilson) Stanley.

He graduated from Adamsville High School and he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1934 to 1936 and was later transferred to Wright Field, in Dayton, in 1941 as a supervisory supply specialist with the Material Division of the Army Air Corps. In 1949, he was transferred to the U.S. Department of the Air Force assigned to the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., returning to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1950. Throughout his long career he received numerous awards for exemplary performance and distinguished service. One of the many highlights of his career came in 1945 when he was given a temporary commission and received orders to go on a highly classified mission that led to a trip around the world - Egypt, India, Iraq, Burma, China, Philippines, Marinas Islands and Hawaii. He retired in 1968 after 35 years of dedicated service.

He served as a superintendent of Sunday School at the United Methodist Church in Tipp City. In the late 1960s, he was a deacon and longtime member of the Nashville United Church of Christ.  Always known for his kind and gentle manner and service to his fellow man, he will be remembered as the rock of his family, serving as a strong and loving role model throughout his long life. A special thank you to Hospice of Cincinnati.  Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, at Nashville United Church of Christ, 4540 W. State Route 571, West Milton, with the Rev. Mike Wertz and the Rev. Russ Kimmery officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, at the family's convenience.  The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. at he church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nashville United Church of Christ in his memory.  Arrangements are being handled by the Hale-Sarver Funeral Home.

STANLEY, THOMAS C. - Thomas C. Russ Mike Wertz and Rev. Russ Kimmery officiating.  Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, at the family's convenience.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nashville UCC in his memory.
