STEINKE, JAMES ANTHONY - James Anthony Steinke, 76, of Tipp City, passed away, Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Hospice of Dayton.  He was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Philothea, the son of the late Isadore Steinke and Bertha Tumbush.  On Oct. 30, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mildred Schenking at St. Joseph's Church.  They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2004.  He is survived by his wife Mildred; three sons, Steven Steinke of Huber heights, Chris (Della) Steinke of Tipp City and Jeff (Rhonda) Steinke of Centerville; two daughters, Kathy Julian of Tipp City and Paula Barlage of Tipp City; ten grandchildren, Justin Julian, Tyler Steinke, Jeremy Julian, Travis Steinke, Brittany Barlage, Abby Steinke, Brooke Barlage, Alex Steinke, Austin Steinke and Aiden Steinke; three brothers, Charles (Armelia) Steinke, Paul (Margie) Steinke and Jessie (Shirley) Steinke; two sisters, Esther (Tim) Mattingly and Alma (Len) Clune; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by three sisters.  James served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U. S. Army from 1952-54, and was discharged as a Sgt. First Class U.S. Military.  As a decorated war veteran, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Citation, Korean Service Ribbon with Bronze Service Star and the United National Service Medal.  He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 586, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5135, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025 and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1991.  James was employed by Avco New Idea in Coldwater.  Following his retirement, he worked part-time at True Value Hardware in Troy.  Funeral services were conducted Thursday at St. John the Baptist Church, Tipp City, with the Rev. R. Marc Sherlock, Pastor, officiating.  Burial followed at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dayton and at Grandview Hospital in Dayton for the loving care they gave James.
