BESECKER, CARL EDGAR - Carl Edgar, aged 86 of Troy, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Koester Pavilion, Troy.  He was born February 19, 1922 in Darke County.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence & Bertha (William) Besecker.  He is survived by his wife Mildred "Millie" (Shawver) Besecker, sons & daughter-in-law Robert Besecker-Greenville, Ken & Cynthia Besecker-TX., daughters & son-in law Shirley & Ronald Barker-Arcanum, Karen Besecker-Versailles, step-daughter Marilyn Brown-Troy, Cyndi Tooley-AZ., Linda & Berton, Hunt-IND.  Eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, eight great-step-grandchildren, brother & sister-in-law Donovan & Jean Besecker-Laura; sister Corene Bucholtz-Arcanum, eight nieces & nephews.  He was a farmer in Darke County for many years & retired from Hobart Brothers, Troy after 20 years of service. He served his country in the US Army in the 94th infantry during WWII & served in the Battle of the Bulge where he was injured and received the purple heart.  He was a 63 year member of the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge and was past master twice.  He was a 25 year member of the Scottish Rite, Dayton, and was a 35 year member of the Potsdam Church of the Brethren where he was head usher for many years.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, 22 E. Cross Street, Potsdam with Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating.  Burial followed at Gettysburg Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Koester Pavilion, 3232 N. County Rd. 25A, Troy, Ohio 45373 or Potsdam Church of the Brethren.  Arrangements are being handled by the Hale-Sarver Funeral Home, West Milton.
