HEIDE, FRED - Rites for Veteran Reporter - Fred Heide,
Brandt correspondent for the New Carlisle Sun for the past 32 year, is
dead. He died at 12:15 a.m. Monday in Stouder Memorial Hospital, Troy, at
the aged of 77. He had been hospitalized for two weeks. Heide was born in
Brandt August 1, 1895, is son of William and Nancy Bellaman Heide. He lived
his entire life in that community and made his home with his sister at 6825
East Walnut Road. Heide retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in
1961 after 42 years of service with the Supply Division. He attended Brandt
United Methodist Church and was a member of Brandt Lodge 711 IOOF, Bethel
Grange 2494, the Brandt Fire Department for 25 years and the 25-year Club at
Wright-Patterson. When Heide first started writing for the New Carlisle
Sun, Ed Williams was the publisher. Heide remained with the company when
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mount took over, and continued his service in January of
1964 when Jack Bowling, publisher of Bowling-Moorman Publications, bought
the local paper. He wrote his last column for the Sun on February 22nd,
immediately before being hospitalized. Heide never married and was always
available to do a good turn for a friend or attend a meeting. He is
survived by two brothers, Guy of Springfield, and Max of Dayton, and the
sister with whom he made his home, Mrs. Alfred (Nellie) Hanauer. Services
for Heide will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Trostel-Chapman Funeral
Home, New Carlisle. The Reverend Thornton Black, pastor of the West
Charleston Church of the Brethren will officiate. He will be assisted by
the Reverend Bobby N. Davis, Calvary General Baptist Church, Phoneton,
Ohio. IOOF services will be held at 7 p.m. and Bethel Grange services will
be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Friends may call at the funeral home
until 8 p.m. that day. Heide will be buried in the New Carlisle Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions be made to favorite charities in
Heide's memory.
