Pfc. Robert W. Wackler Killed in Burma Action
Overseas since October 1943 - lost life on Feb 2 - Formerly Employed At Gummed Products Company - Troy Youth Enlisted in 1943
Pfc. Robert W. Wackler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Wackler, residing on the Fenner Road, R. R. 3, Troy, was killed in action in Burma, Feb. 2, according to a telegram from the war department delivered to his parents. Had he lived until April 22, he would have celebrated his 21st birthday.
The last message received from Private Wackler was written in India last December.
In civilian life he was employed by the Gummed Products company, Troy, and enlisted for service Feb. 1, 1943. He trained at Camp Carson, Colo. and was sent overseas Oct. 29, 1943 and was serving with an Infantry division of the American Armed Forces when killed.
One brother, Harold Jesse Wackler, seaman first class in the United States Navy, is stationed as a cook in Honolulu. In addition to the parents and the brother in the navy other survivors are five brothers, Carl, residing between Covington and Piqua; Ralph, Pleasant Hill, Marvin, Kenneth and Herbert at home; and four sisters, Helen, Olena, Dorothy and Irma Wackler.
