Conover, Aug. 14 - Byron W. Merritt, 80, retired farmer and for 23 years the operator of a grain threshing outfit in this section, died at 7:10 o'clock Wednesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Manning, Lena. Mr. Merritt had been ill for two weeks following a slight stroke two weeks ago when he fell and fractured several ribs. He had suffered a major stroke five years ago. He was born February 7, 1861, a son of George and Margaret Merritt, in Cass county, Indiana, but had lived in the eastern part of Miami county since the age of five years. His wife, Ella Worthington Merritt died in 1933 and since he has made his home with his children. Mr. Merritt was a member of the Baptist church at Newmarket, Ohio. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Manning, Mrs. Mary Brautigan of Sidney route 5, Mrs. Otho Baker, Conover and Mrs. Forest Neff, Conover rural route; a son, Rev Raymond Merritt of Conover; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm at the Lena Baptist church with burial in the Fletcher cemetery. The body will be returned to the Manning home tonight.

Byron W. Merritt, 80, retired farmer of the Fletcher community died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Manning, last evening at 7 o'clock from injuries received in a fall two weeks ago. The funeral rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Lena Baptist church, and burial will be made in the Fletcher cemetery. Friends may call at the Manning home at any time. Survivors include his five children, 11 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Harry Manning with whom he made his home; Mrs. C. C. Brautigam, of R R 5, Sidney; Mrs. Otho Baker, of Conover; Mrs. Forest Ness, of Conover route, and Rev. Raymond Merrit, of Conover. He was a member of the New Market Baptist church.
