Piqua Daily Call
27 December 1918
Mrs. Harley Hildebrand, of near Dawson, a sister-in-law of Mrs. Roscoe Babylon, of this city, was instantly killed by a Big Four freight train at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Dawson. Mrs. Hildebrand was driving south on the road from Oran to Dawson and was crossing the Big Four track when the west bound local No 57, struck her. This crossing is just west of the elevator at Dawson and the dwelling and elevator buildings together with being a closed buggy may account for the accident. The train was in charge of Conductor McIntire and Engineer Houghins. They were running under orders to meet the east bound passenger train No 10 at the Lamb Tower, just east of Houston. Operator Simmons at Lamb Tower saw the accident, he said the engine struck the buggy, squarely and threw it some distance in the air. Mrs. Hildebrand was dead when aid reached her. Her body was not mangled nor cut with the exception of a gash in the left cheek. The horse was killed and the buggy demolished. Mrs. Hildebrand was the daughter of Thomas Chauney of Dawson. She was about 35 years of age. Her husband, father and one son survive her. Arrangements for funeral services have not been completed.
