Chalmer Franklin Manning was born in Piqua, Ohio, October 18, 1914 where he was educated in the Piqua public schools. At an early age he with his sister Marjorie became a member of the Church of the Brethren at Covington, Ohio. He was a faithful attendant of his chosen church and Sunday School and earned the esteem and affection of a wide circle of friends. In August 1932 he went to Nevada, Missouri where he secured a position with Joseph Pohl a general contractor. While at work on March 15 last he was stricken with appendicitis, a few days later after some persuasion he was taken to the Saint Mary's Hospital at Kansas City, Mo. for an operation, after a long hard struggle he seemed on the road to recovery but the developments of complications resulted in his death suddenly at 7:30 o'clock on Wednesday May 1st, at the age of 20 yrs. 6 mo. and 13 days. His passing is mourned by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Boggs and Miss Edith Manning of Columbus and Miss Helen Manning at home and a large number of other relatives and friends.
