John George Fessler
John George Fessler was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 25, 1844; died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Frank Gehle in Piqua on Friday afternoon, August 31, 1934. He had reached the ripe old age of 89 years, 9 months, and 6 days. He united in marriage with Catherine Sheets in 1872. Six children were born to this union, five daughters and one son. The wife and one daughter having preceded him in death, the wife died 26 years ago. The living children are; Mrs. Frank Gehle and Mrs. Frank Keifer of Piqua; Mrs. Alma Green and Mrs. Ed Lyons of Houston; and Frank Fessler of Troy. One brother and one sister are living; Dave Fessler and Mrs. Danie Clark. There are 32 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A wide circle of other relatives and friends mourn his departure from this earth. The deceased was baptized in infancy and in early life became a confirmed member of Frieden's Lutheran congregation, later in life he transferred his membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Polo. He remained a faithful member until his death. He spent practically all of his life on the farm in Shelby County. He was active with his farm duties up until a year ago. George Fessler was an industrious, hardworking man. He was of a quiet unassuming disposition. He was a good and kind neighbor, a friend to many. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
