MATTHEW J. RYAN
Those of our citizens whose residence dates back a quarter of a century can remember Miss Dacotah Skinner, a charming girl pupil of our schools. In 1876, shortly after leaving Troy, she was married to Matthew Ryan, Jr. of Leavenworth, Kans. The sad news has come to her relatives here that her husband met with a fatal accident on Nov. 25, from which he died on the following day, leaving a widow and four children, Grace, Mary Louise, Anna Florence and Clarence. The deceased was born in Cincinnati, Nov. 13, 1851, but had resided in Leavenworth since 1857. His splendid business qualifications, when he reached manhood, made him a prominent figure in the state of his adoption and he was at the head of numerous important enterprises, the leading one being the cattle trade, in all of which he was successful, his holdings of property amounting to millions of dollars in value. At the time of his death he was the largest resident taxpayer on the Leavenworth County tax rolls. His bereaved widow has the profound sympathy of her relatives and friends here, in her loss.
