ABRAHAM MINNICH
Abraham Minnich, the seventh of eight children of George and Nancy Shoemaker Minnich was born near Chambersburg, Franklin Co. PA, May 28, 1838 and died at his home in Franklin Township, Darke Co. OH of heart lesion and exhaustion due to old age June 16, 1914, aged 81 years and 10 days. When one year old he moved with his parents by wagon to Ohio location where the city of Dayton now stands. In 1839 they moved to Miami Co., and in 1849 to Darke Co. where our subject has lived ever since. When Abraham was 16 years of age his father was called home thus leaving him to care for his widowed mother. Thru over work in clearing the heavy timber from the land he broke down in health at 21. A year's rest restored his health. On Sept. 6th, 1857 he was married to Elizabeth Swinger. On the 26 of January following they moved on the farm they have occupied continuously for more than 56 years. To this union there were born five children, Louisa, Levi, Rebecca, Martha and Anna Mariah. The oldest and the youngest of these preceded him to the spirit world, as did also his foster son Joshua Hyer and his foster daughter Nancy Stauffer Kreider, whom they had reared from childhood to maturity. On Nov. 11, 1860 this couple united with the Church of the Brethren since which they have enjoyed a happy Christian life. Since 1881 he has creditably filled the office of deacon. He lived a quiet and industrious life always being better contented when busy. It afforded him much pleasure to give liberally for benevolent purposes. He was a kind father and a dutiful husband often sacrificing his own comfort and pleasure to comfort and care for an afflicted side companion. With his passing away the last one of his generation has passed away. He was the last surviving uncle of a large number of nephews and nieces. He leaves to morn his departure a wife, three children, a foster daughter, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. The family desires to extend their sincere thanks to all who have assisted during the sickness and death of the deceased, and will be pleased to return the favor when needed. All who wish are invited to return to the home for refreshments.
The above was found at a garage sale for J. Harold Royer, in Painter Creek-Pitsburg, Darke County Ohio. He was the Grandson of Abraham. His Uncle Levi Minnich (1863-c1947) was a well known Brethren Minister in the area, and wrote the above obit.
