J. A. "Polk" Westfall
J. A. "Polk" Westfall was born in Miami County, Ohio, near Troy, Dec. 18, 1858, and departed this life Nov. 3, 1934, aged 75 years, 10 months, 15 days. He was the eldest son of Martin and Ellen Westfall, who have preceded him in death. Two brothers and one sister have also entered into the spirit worlds. After the death of his father in 1880 the family moved into the neighborhood where he has spent the remainder of his life. At the age of 14 years he joined the Beach Christian Church, following his Lord in baptism, he was faithful to those vows to the end of his life, dying in the triumphs of the living faith in Jesus, he has filled many places of trust and responsibility. For many years he has been a deacon on his church, and he was superintendent of Sunday School at the time of his death. He was the oldest member of the Gettysburg Lodge I.O.O.F. until it was moved to Greenville. He exemplified in his life the principles of friendship, love and truth. On June 16, 1883 he was united in marriage to Rosanna Penny. To this union 5 children were born; two sons and 3 daughters, namely, Pearly McCool of Covington, Virgil Westfall of Clearwater, Florida, Nellie Myers who preceded him in death in Feb. 1919. Dolphus Westfall of Tipp City, Ohio and Alpha Westfall at home. There are also 11 grandchildren, 3 brothers, George of Union City, Martin of Fremont, Ohio, and Elmer of Pontiac, Mich., 3 sisters Sarah Wright, Mary Wilcox, and Susie Schneck of Greenville, Ohio. He died as he had lived, quietly as one who wraps the drapery of his couch around him and lies down to pleasant dreams.
