Oldest Citizen Of Pleasant Hill Is Dead Lewis Whitmer, Retired Merchant Victim Of Heart Attack This Morning
Lewis Whitmer, retired businessman and oldest resident of Pleasant Hill, passed away very early this morning about 8:00 o'clock at the home of his son following a heart attack. Mr. Whitmer had arisen this morning as usual and following his breakfast he went down to another room and set down. Just at that moment he was stricken and death occurred immediately. His unexpected death came as a severe shock to the members of his family and many friends and acquaintances. The deceased was widely known having spent his entire life in Pleasant Hill and the vicinity, where he was always interested and active in civic affairs. He was 84 years of age. Earlier in life Mr. Whitmer was engaged in farming east of the village, but later moved to Pleasant Hill where he conducted a hardware and implement store for a number of years. He was a devout member of the Congregational Christian Church, and was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge. Immediate survivors include, a son, Clyde P. Whitmer and one grandson Lewis Wesley Whitmer, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sponsler and Mrs. Martha Hall of Pleasant Hill, and one brother Mr. W. W. Whitmer of Covington. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Congregational Christian Church with his pastor Rev. W. G. Kershner officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Hill under the direction of E. E. Geeting.
