Mary Alice Herbst
Mrs. Mary Alice Herbst was born December 4, 1858 in Montgomery county. She went home to be with the Lord, January 1, 1935, at the age of 76 years and 27 days. Mrs. Herbst was married Dec. 24, 1880 to John Laudenslayer. On October 16, 1881, Mr. Laudenslayer died leaving his wife and one daughter, Minnie to mourn his departure. After being a widow almost ten years, she was married to John Herbst on February 8, 1891. Their home was blessed with six children, three however, have preceded their mother in death. Those who sorrow, but not without hope, are her husband, John Herbst, three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Ross of Covington, Mrs. Orpha Rike of Dayton, Mrs. Ruth Miller, and one son, Elmer Herbst of Pleasant Hill. Also one brother, Charles Forbes of Lima, Ohio. Her only sister having died eight years ago. Eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Herbst was always interested in her church having joined the Pleasant Hill Brethren Church under the ministry of Jesse F. Watson. During her present pastor's visits she never failed to express her desire and hope that her church would be more faithful to "Him that loved the church and gave himself for it." She was always interested in the pastor's family, constantly asking about the pastor and his family. Mrs. Herbst appreciated very much her husband and children, their many kindnesses to her during her days of sickness. There was no stone left unturned by these dear ones, in their attempt to make her comfortable. May the better portion, which she now enjoys, be the future hope of all of us as we "watch and wait for the return of our Lord".
