Rev. Howard B. Martin
Rev. Howard B. son of William and Sarah Martin was born January 22, 1883, in Hancock Co. Ind. Passed to his reward Feb. 28, 1935. Aged 52 years, 1 mo. and 6 days.
He was united in Holy Matrimony with Miss Mary Estella Wisehart April 15, 1903. They lived happily together, sharing each others joys and cares. To them were born three children, a son and two daughters.
He united with the church April 26, 1903 and was called to the ministry in March 1904. Was ordained to the eldership Feb. 28, 1914. He served the following churches as pastor, Darlow, Kans., Summitville, Ind., Virden, Ill., and Oakland, Ohio. He served the church in many places of trust. He loved to preach the Gospel in simplicity and power. He conducted many revival meetings, the last one in Troy, O. He truly went about doing good to all. He solemnized many marriages and preached scores of funerals. He met his tragic death while on a mission of love. Truly his life was given in humble service for others.
He was a kind and devoted husband, a tender and loving father. He was a good neighbor and friend to all regardless of creed or kind.
He leaves to mourn his devoted companion, his son Lavon and wife and granddaughter Diane, two daughters Edith and Mildred. Lavon is managing the Kroger store in Greenville, O. Edith is in charge of Stouder Memorial hospital in Troy, O. and Mildred is doing private duty nursing. Also, three brothers, Charles Martin of Greenfield, Ind., Curtis , Fortville, Ind., Frank, Girard, Ill. A brother Lee, and a sister Nora, preceded him to the better land. (article cut off)
