Margaret Rike Heitzman, fourth child of Rueben and Martha Ann Rike, was born in Newberry township near Covington, Ohio, April 1861. In the year 1873 she became a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church, a membership to which she remained faithful during her entire life. Her interest in the work of the church was one of the most pleasant of her duties and furnishes a true insight into the life of this kindly Christian character. On February 3rd, 1881 she was united in marriage to Jacob Heitzman at the Presbyterian parsonage in Bradford by Rev. J. L. Goodnight, a union which was to endure through nearly 55 pleasant years. She was called home on the evening of October 14th, 1935 at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 2 days. Mrs. Heitzman will always remain a pleasing memory to all the friends and relatives who knew her. Her sweet, retiring disposition, her anxieties for the comfort of others, her manner of keeping her own physical ailments in the background, her earnest endeavors to hold fast to the Golden Rule, were but a few of the characteristics which endeared her. For the past twenty-five years she had been almost totally deaf, and this deprived of the pleasures of life yet one of the most typical and unselfish remarks the writer can recall was her oft repeated expression of thankfulness that her sight had been spared to her all through these years and that her affliction was no worse. Many years of her life were spent on the Heitzman farm in Washington township. In 1919 the family moved to Piqua, Ohio retaining that residence until September 1st this year at which time they moved to the home of their daughter in Covington. Surviving relatives are; her husband Jacob Heitzman, a daughter Mrs. L. N. Van Atta of Covington, three grandchildren, Arthur, Mary and Betty Van Atta of Covington and two sisters Mrs. Etta Drake of Piqua, and Mrs. Charles Perry of Logansport, Indiana.
