Former Resident Dies In Illinois
W. E. Couffer, 84, formerly of Covington died at his home in Oak Park, Illinois, Monday, according to word received here today. Funeral services were held yesterday. He was formerly chief clerk of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Born in Covington, O, in 1852, Mr. Couffer started working for the Pennsylvania as a messenger and news agent when he was 16 years old, and went to Chicago as chief clerk when he was 22. He later became freight cashier, a position which he held for 35 years, until his retirement in 1922. For many years Mr. Couffer was president of the board of trustees of the Central Presbyterian Church of Oak Park, and a worker in the Illinois Society, Sons of American Revolution. His widow, two daughters and two sons survive.
