Andrew Fridley Mikesell
Andrew Fridley Mikesell, Oldest son of John and Susan Fridley Mikesell, was born July 2, 1843 North of Pleasant Hill, Ohio. He departed this life at his home in Covington Jan. 22, 1936, at the advanced age of 93 yrs, 6 mos, and 20 days. On New Years Day 1867 he was married to Jane Beery, eight children came to grace this marriage. One, Alma Trump, preceded him in death. His wife also departed this life July 8, 1922. Early in life he became a member of the Church of the Brethren and his life was ever an expression of his deep and abiding faith. He was ever ready to give himself to the work of the church and for many years served in the offices of deacon and Sunday school supt. In him and his going the loss to the church is that of a noble saint. He was a useful citizen in the community in which he lived and served his country in the last three months of the Civil War, in the One Hundred Forty Seventh Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. To mourn his departure, to hold in sacred memory his beautiful life, and the hope springs eternal; are left his seven children, nineteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, beside other relatives and a host of friends. "The serenest brow is the one that believes most." This truth is from the pen of Booth Tarkington was exemplified in the life of Mr. Mikesell. By faith he grew serene, as a green tree grows. The roots of his being thrust deep and strong in the Eternal Verity of God. Deep and still and hidden from view were the strong roots of his life; from which the visible tree emerged, grew and branched ever higher and wider to refresh, to shelter, and to inspire all those who passed his way. Years passed- happy children grew to manhood and womanhood in the shelter of THIS TREE, were transplanted in other regions, their roots firm-grounded in the soil of their fathers faith. Grandchildren sprang strong and true from the same good strain - the Tree spread new branches- ever-growing, ever-spreading, even to Today; God grants the boon of rest even to the strongest tree, well done, Good and faithful servant rest--rest serene as thy calm--leaving the Green, Eternal Tree of Memory;--deep and still and hidden are the strong roots of his life from which Today emerge Memories; which shall grow ever higher, wider, to refresh, to inspire all those who passed his way.
