John William Lyle
John William Lyle was born in Fultonham, Muskingham County, O. October 21st, 1857. When he was still quite young he removed with his parents up into Hardin County where they resided for several years and then moved to Belle Center, O., where he met Miss Emma Pierson who became his wife April 9, 1878. To them were born four children, three of whom died in infancy. One son, W. Boyd lives to mourn his father's death. After His marriage he moved with his family to Celina where he took up the grocery business. He lived in Celina for four years and at the end of that time came to Covington. He began in Covington in the grocery business in the fall of 1885 and with the exception of a few years has been in that business ever since. For a short time he moved to his farm near Troy, but being dissatisfied outside the grocery he again bought out his former business and remained in it to the time of his death. His love for his work amounted to almost the feeling that he was called to that task, and he refused to neglect it in any way because he seemed to feel that folks needed him there in the work. In 1916 he was elected a director of the Covington Building and Loan Association where he has served for a little over eleven years, serving one term as president of the Board. Mr. Lyle was a charter member of the Covington Lodge of Knights of Pythias and was also a member of the Covington Christian Church. He was very much interested in the work of the community and of the church. For about two years his family have been rather anxious as to his physical condition but he never offered a complaint to anyone. In his death our church and town has lost a stalwart character and an excellent citizen who will be greatly missed. His kindly presence and his pleasant smile always carried with his an influence that was helpful. Death came very suddenly on the evening of May 27. He was 69 years, 7 months and 6 days of age at the time of his departure. Besides his wife and son he leaves one grandchild, Richard Lyle and one sister, Mrs. Mary Sloan of Kenton, Ohio.
