Charles H. Jackson, Farm Machine Dealer, Dies of Heart Attack
Former County Official Conducted Local Implement Business for 23 Years
Charles H. Jackson, 82, proprietor of the Jackson Implement Company here for 23 years, and a former Miami County Commissioner, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 209 East Water Street, after having been stricken Sunday with coronary thrombosis. Mr. Jackson, who was widely known throughout this section of the state, was a native of Darke County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jackson, and was one of a family of eight children. On February 21, 1886, he was united in marriage with Miss Lydia Bigler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mose Bigler, also of Darke County. The couple resided in Darke County for four years when they purchased a farm near Covington at Sugar Grove. They lived on the farm until they came to Troy and the implement business here was established by Mr. Jackson. In addition to his agricultural pursuits, Mr. Jackson also operated the Jackson Stone Company, near Covington, conducting a stone quarry, gravel pit and dealing in coal before coming to Troy, Ohio. He took office as a commissioner for Miami County September 18, 1911 and served until September 15, 1919, or for a period of eight years. He was also interested in the civic affairs of that community and had also been connected with education and other interests at one time serving as a school board member. Mr. Jackson is survived by six children, Mrs. Mabel Wackler, Andrew, Wilford and Mrs. Bertha Thompson of the Covington vicinity, William of California and Mrs. Martha Fulker, wife of Vivian Fulker of Troy. There are 45 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sarah Martin of Gettysburg is a half sister. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson had the unusual privilege of observing their 60th wedding anniversary this year, Mrs. Jackson's death occurring a few months later on August 13 of a heart ailment. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Church of the Brethren of Pleasant Hill, but recently attended services of the church here in Troy. Short services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Irvin Funeral Home followed with services at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren in Pleasant Hill. Rev. W. Glenn McFadden will officiate. The burial will be in the Covington cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home.
