Sabina Long
In the midst of snow-clad fields and woodlands, near Nashville, Miami County, Ohio, there stood a peaceful farmhouse, where in February 6th, 1850 a little daughter came to bless the home of Henry and Polly Hamiel. Sabina was one of eleven children four sons and seven daughters. Six have preceded her in death. At the age of 14 she became a member of the Sugar Grove Church of the Brethren and through all the years was faithful to her youthful vows. In January, 1869 she became the bride of John Long and to this union three sons were given. Frank, Irvin and Charles, who will always remember her as a kind and loving Christian mother. All of her married life was spent on a farm west of Pleasant Hill, and upon the death of her companion she came to the village to live. During the past four years she has made her home with her children. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary Smith, of Brookville; Mrs. Sam Myers of Verona; and two brothers, Andy Hamiel of Dayton and Al Hamiel of Brookville. There are also six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. On Thursday, October 28, 1926, she heard the call of her Master and so her long pilgrimage of seventy-six years, eight months and 24 days was ended. Who can tell the influence of a Christian mother? From everywhere there comes the loving tribute of her friends. Her life among us a hallowed memory. A fitting example of loving sacrifice to friend and neighbor and a loyal follower of the Master.
Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered.
Her feet were firmly planted on the rock.
Amid the wildest storms she stands undaunted
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock-
She knows her Christ has heard her prayer
And cries "It shall be done-sometime, somewhere."
The family wishes to express their thanks for the floral offerings; the sympathy and assistance of friends during the sickness and death of the mother. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of the Brethren, conducted by Rev. J. C. Flora assisted by H. C. Marlin. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in charge of Geo. W. Miller.
