Obituary of Mrs. Frederick Rehmerth
Augusta Wilhelmina Meier was born July 4, 1855. She was consecrated to the Lord in holy baptism the following September. When fourteen years of age she was confirmed by the Rev. John Hinder and became a member of the Main St. Lutheran Church. On October 17, 1872, she was united in marriage with Frederick Rehmerth. Two daughters and one son blessed this union. An infant daughter has preceded her mother to the better land. Mrs. Rehmerth departed this life at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, last Sunday. She had attained unto the age of 41 years, 11 months, and 9 days. On Tuesday, at 1 p.m., the relatives and friends of the deceased met at her late home four miles southeast of Troy, and after a service of scripture and prayer, proceeded to the church where the services were conducted by Rev. Herbert J. Weaver and Rev. Schaeffer. The text of the English sermon was Phil. 1, 21: "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Sister Rehmerth was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and loving daughter, a kind friend and a consecrated Christian. To know her was to love her and those who knew her best, loved her most. She had a large circle of friends as was attested by the large number in attendance at the funeral. The secret of her being so beloved by all is found in the fact that she possessed in a large measure that "charity which thinketh no evil" which, like heavenly wisdom, is "first pure, then peaceable, gentile, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits." Her body was laid to rest in beautiful Riverside to await the resurrection of the just.
"Peaceful be thy silent slumbers,
Peaceful in the grave so low, Thou no more wilt
join our number,
Thou no more thy pains shalt know. Yet again we
hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled; Then in heaven with
joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tears are shed."
