Died - Friday, March 5, 1897, Dr. Wm. S. Cox, aged 68 years, 7 months and 28 days. The funeral services were held at his late residence on Monday, March 8th, Rev. John Blackford, minister of the Universalist Church, officiating. After which the Masonic fraternity conducted the services according to their ritual. He was made a mason in Social Lodge No. 217, F & A.M., nearly forty- three years ago, and was a faithful member up to death. As a tribute of respect, the Lodge room will be draped in mourning for ninety days and the following resolutions were adopted and spread upon the minutes:
Whereas, In view of the loss we have sustained by the decease of our friend and brother, Dr. Wm. S. Cox, and of the still heavier loss sustained by those who were nearest and dearest to him; Therefore be it resolved:
Resolved, That it is a just tribute to the memory of our departed brother to say that in regretting his removal from out midst we mourn for one who was in every way worthy of our respect and regard.
Resolved, That we sincerely condole with the representatives of the deceased on the dispensation with which it has pleased the Divine Providence to afflict them, and commend to Him who orders all things for the best and whose chastisements are meant in mercy.
Resolved, That this heartfelt testimonial of our sympathy and sorrow be presented to the widow of out departed brother, signed by the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Secretary, with the seal of the Lodge attached.
