Christina Flammer Holfinger

Christina Flammer Holfinger was born in Moessingen, Wurtemburg, Germany on August 28, 1850; died at her home in Covington, O. on Wednesday morning, May 7, 1930, having reached the age of 79 years, 8 months and 9 days.  On Dec. 30th, 1869 she was united in marriage with George Holfinger who still survives, they having lived happily together for more than 60 years. To this union three sons and two daughters were born: Barney, John, William, Margaret and Mae. Of these five children only one daughter survives, Mrs. Charles Westfall. There are nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. One aged sister survives, Mrs. Barbara Neth, also the following half brothers and sisters: Geo. Flammer, Rev. William Flammer, Mrs. W. A. Freeman and Mrs. W. H. Perry. A large number of other relatives and friends mourn the departure of this aged woman. She was baptized in infancy while yet in Germany. She came to this country at the age of three years and with her parents settled here in Covington. At the age of 18 she became a confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran Church while the congregation worshipped on South High Street, under the pastorate of Rev. Shaffer. She remained faithful to her confirmation vow. The deceased had always enjoyed reasonably good health, growing rather feeble in recent years. In the early hours of Friday morning May 2nd, she suffered a light stroke of paralysis, on Saturday evening following a second and more severe attack which resulted in her death. Mrs. Holfinger was a quiet, home loving and industrious woman. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, a good neighbor, a kind friend to everyone. And above all a true Christian woman - faithful unto death.

"She resteth now, no more her breast
Heaves with its weary breath;
Pain sits no longer on the brow
Where lies the calm of death,
Sunk to her rest like a tired child,
She lies in slumber deep.
Soft folded in the arms of Him
Who giveth His beloved sleep.
