Madison D. Himes
Madison D. Himes, son of John and Mary Shroyer Himes was born in Montgomery County, south of Dayton March 20, 1856, the youngest of a family of eight children. He departed this life February 5, 1927, having attained the age of 70 years, 10 months and 15 days. "The days of the years of his life" were just beyond the allotted three score years and ten. He was married first to Jane Houston to whom were born two sons, the youngest dying in infancy. His other son, Orion survives him. After the death of his first wife he was united in marriage with Laura Bellen Kuhn who passed beyond in 1912. In 1914 he was united in marriage to Cordelia Hoopes who survives him. In early life he united with the Evangelical Lutheran church in Greene county. In 1884 he moved to Miami County. On Jan. 23, 1887 he transferred his membership by letter to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Covington, Ohio. He has maintained his interest in, and fidelity to his church all these years of his life. He was the last of this large family to enter into the better life. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Cordelia, his son Orion, six grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. He was faithful husband, a kind father, and a jovial friend.
